boa's american debut

Not being much of a fan of Korean pop music, I'm a little late with this bit of news... Lots of people telling me about BoA. South Korean pop star BoA, aka Boa Kwon, and not to be confused with Bank of America, has generated some buzz lately with "Eat You Up," the first track from her upcoming English debut album Look Who's Talking. Watch the music video here.

Like I said, I don't know much about Korean music, so I can't admit to being much of a fan (my knowledge BoA is primarily limited to this Wikipedia entry). But I think I like it. Does she have what it takes to break out and cross over into U.S. mainstream success? Or will she be one of the many Asian superstars who have made the attempt, only to fizzle out in the daunting American market?

At first glance, just based on this video, she's a hell of a performer. The video kind of kicks ass (featuring dancing so potent, it destroys the room) and the song, for what it is, is catchy as hell. Stupid title, but hey, waaaay worse artists with worse songs with worse titles have managed to hit it big, so why can't BoA do it too? The single's out on iTunes, and the album is expected to be released sometime next year.
