chinese chef receives top michelin rating
This week, Michelin released its first directory to fine dining in China and awarded its top three-star rating to a Chinese chef for the first time in the gourmet guide's 108-year history: Michelin awards first Chinese chef coveted 3 stars.

The three-star award was given to head chef Chan Yan-tak of Hong Kong's Lung King Heen, a Cantonese restaurant in the luxury Four Seasons Hotel. Only 72 restaurants worldwide hold three Michelin stars.

The Michelin guide for Hong Kong and Macau awarded 28 restaurants in the two cities star ratings, including top billing for one restaurant in each city. Eight restaurants got two stars and 18 establishments received one star each.

UPDATE: Michelin's ratings for restaurants in Hong Kong and Macau have apparently drawn some criticism from those who insist the guide failed to understand the true, authentic Chinese dining experience: Michelin guide sparks criticisms from Hong Kong gourmets.
