shakira's band of traditional korean drummers

Lots of folks have been writing in to inform me about Shakira and her troupe of traditional Korean drummers. She performed this weekend on Saturday Night Live, backed by a band that included an attractive quartet of Korean drummers, fully dressed in traditional garb.

I'm not the biggest fan of Shakira (I think she sounds physically ill when she sings), but I do find it interesting that Korean drummers are being incorporated into this song. She sang the same song with even more drummers on Dancing With The Stars last week.

It's certainly visually stunning... but does anyone actually hear the drums? I don't have the most discerning ears, but apart from the opening drum beats, it seems to me that they're largely there for decoration. Ah well, I was pretty much distracted by Shakira's crazy hip shaking anyway.
