oldboy remake is not happening
Very pleased to hear the latest news on the Hollywood remake of Park Chan-wook's Oldboy... specifically, that it's not going happen. According to a trusted source, the project is dead: How Tough Is Hollywood?? Sometimes Even Will Smith And Steven Spielberg Can't Get A Project Going...

Will Smith and Steven Spielberg had apparently been working on the project, based on the 2003 South Korean revenge thriller, but I guess they just couldn't get it off the ground. Not really surprising -- if you've seen the original film, you know it's great, but definitely some challenging material.

Later in the process, Smith said that the project wouldn't be a direct remake of Park's film, but an adaptation of the original Japanese manga. Whatever the case, I'm breathing a huge sigh of relief. Spielberg and Smith were never the right fit for this movie. The project's dead... for now.

Only a matter of time before someone attempts another foolish remake.
