According to Hollywood Reporter, Fox has picked up the TV pilot for Nevermind Nirvana, a comedy from writer Ajay Sahgal. Nope, it has nothing to with grunge rock or Kurt Cobain. It's actually described as "Everybody Loves Raymond with Indian Americans."

It is an ensemble multicamera comedy about two grown-up sons, their Indian immigrant parents and their friends, including one of the son's Caucasian girlfriend.

"It's about how their lives intersect in often polarizing ways and about the clash of the old Indian values and the new American values," Sahgal said.

"Nirvana" is largely based on real-life experiences by Sahgal, who is the son of Indian immigrants and is married to "Lie to Me" co-star Kelli Williams.

The pilot was originally devleoped for NBC a few years back, titled Nearly Nirvana, and at one point was going to star Kal Penn and Judy Greer. Hopefully they can get this latest version off the ground.

It'll be cool to see an Indian American family on U.S. prime time television -- particularly in a comedy -- but I hope it doesn't boil down to culture clash jokes every week. That's a recipe for early cancellation. Guess we'll see. More here: Writer details 'Nevermind Nirvana' pilot.
